When it comes to humanitarian action, raising, preserving, and increasing capital is essential. This has been the mission of the Foundation for the International Committee of the Red Cross since its creation - and one designed to ensure that the ICRC can maintain its independence and continue its activities in conflict areas.
Nevertheless, in order to meet the numerous challenges it faces in the future, the Foundation has also called on the private sector for support. In October 2005, therefore, the ICRC and seven Swiss-based institutions (ABB, Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch, Roche, Swiss Re, Vontobel, and Zurich Financial Services) launched the ICRC Corporate Support Group, which brings together companies committed to supporting the ICRC’s humanitarian mission, both now and in the years ahead.
This is the first time that the ICRC has formed a long-term partnership with the private sector.
